In 1891 David Hansemann observed asymmetric mitoses in all of the epithelial cancers he examined. This led him to the hypothesis that, “The cell of the malignant tumor is a cell with a certain abnormal chromatin content.”
Theodor Boveri formulated the first aneuploidy theory of cancer in 1914.
